So we are please asking you to help us with whatever you’ve got,” reads a letter written on behalf of the 43 miners who still live at the stripped Grootvlei Mine, in Springs, on the East Rand. Helping Hands’ web portal helps Afrikaans-speaking job seekers

Solidarity’s Helping Hands’ online job portal, Werknet.co.za, is to provide a service to Afrikaans-speaking employers who want to advertise jobs as of this week. Werknet.co.za is a free portal for Afrikaans-speaking job seekers and was launched in May 2011.

Since the launch of Werknet.co.za in May, more than 3000 job seekers have registered their CVs and the number is growing by almost 150 CVs a week. In response to the need for employers to post job ads in Afrikaans as well, Werknet.co.za was developed further to cater for employers. Read more…

A group of Grade R learners from Kleintreetjies Nursery School in Booysens, Pretoria recently celebrated love with popular actress Angelique Gerber, who became famous for playing Clara from Bucarest in the television soap 7de Laan and as the presenter of Boer soek ʼn vrou. The boys decorated sheep with wool and the girls cut out hearts and exchanged them among themselves. However, the event was also a reminder that a schoolbag for a needy Grade One pupil is a gift of love that lasts the whole year.
