Bequests
Helping Hand relies on the goodwill of individuals to help the needy. Members can now leave a bequest to Helping Hand in their will. Bequests must be specified in the will.
Supplies
Donations of basic necessities such as food, clothes, furniture and other household item are accepted with tremendous gratitude by the donation and distribution division. These goods are distributed to nursery schools, old-age homes, informal settlements and shelters. Donations are only given to projects for which state subsidies are not readily available.
There is always a need for food and toiletries:
Food: mealie-meal, flour, rice, instant yeast, dehydrated vegetables, soya products, rooibos tea, sugar, small bottles of oil, canned fish/beans/mixed vegetables, jam/peanut butter, fortified grain products, powdered milk, salt.
Toiletries: soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, face cloths, deodorant, sanitary towels, toilet paper, tissues, formula milk.
In the Pretoria region, donors can bring items to Helping Hand’s national office at Solidarity Park, cnr. DF Malan Drive and Eendracht Street, Kloofsig. The office hours are 08:00 – 16:30 on Monday to Thursday, and from 08:00 to 15:00 on Friday. The donations register is completed at the Helping Hand office, after which the goods are taken to the donations warehouse.
Donations in other areas are channelled directly to a volunteer-driven Solidarity Helping Hand branch in your area. For more information regarding your nearest SHH branch, please contact Solidarity Helping Hand’s national office on 012 644 4390 / 012 644 4426 or send an e-mail to diens@helpendehand.co.za
