Job portal for Afrikaans employers
it-online.co.za 1 December 2011
Solidarity Helping Hand’s online job portal, werknet.co.za, will be providing a unique service to Afrikaans employers who want to advertise Afrikaans jobs as of this week. Werknet.co.za is a free, Afrikaans job portal for jobseekers that was launched in May 2011.
Since the launch of werknet.co.za in May, more than 3 000 jobseekers have registered their CVs and the number is growing by almost 150 CVs a week. In response to the need for employers to post job ads in Afrikaans as well, werknet.co.za was developed further to cater for Afrikaans employers. It is the first online job portal where jobseekers and employers can meet in Afrikaans.
“Werknet.co.za will make it easier for employers who are looking to employ Afrikaans people, to find qualified or competent Afrikaans candidates for positions,” says Marietjie Smit, head of WerkNet.
“Employers have access to CVs from a wide range of Afrikaans jobseekers – from school leavers to expatriates wishing to return to South Africa and people who have lost their jobs as a result of affirmative action.”
Although the service is available to jobseekers for free, there is a cost attached to posting job ads. Half of the cost is donated to Helping Hand to support the expansion of this service for Afrikaans jobseekers.
WerkNet, a service of Solidarity Helping Hand, aims to actively integrate Afrikaners into the labour market.
“A considerable dent can be made to unemployment among Afrikaans people simply by bringing jobseekers into contact with opportunities, which is precisely what werknet.co.za does,” says Smit.
